Abstract
Innovative technologies developed in the Digital Age and educational practices in times of crisis such as the New Coronavirus epidemic require teachers to acquire new techno-pedagogical skill sets. This project seeks to develop and evaluate a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) entitled "Technologically Enhanced Language Learning" in order to improve the techno-pedagogical competencies of pre-service and in-service foreign language teachers. Through focusing on the development of techno-pedagogical skills of foreign language teachers, the proposed project aims to contribute to the training of teachers with qualifications required in the digital age who can design and manage high quality, engaging and effective learning experiences. In this respect, the added value of the project is considered high since it seeks to improve the competencies of the participants on how to integrate innovative digital technologies into language education through a MOOC. The proposed project is unique in that it is among few examples in the world, and a first in Turkey.
Within the scope of the project, the TPACK model will be taken as a basis in the development of the MOOC; and Kirkpatrick Evaluation Model will be used for evaluation of the MOOC. Explanatory Sequential Design (ESD), one of the Mixed Method research designs, will be used in the project, as it includes assessments at different levels and allows for an in-depth understanding of the research questions. The quantitative and qualitative findings will provide concrete evidence about the degree to which reaction, learning and behavior levels are realized. In addition to the knowledge and skills gained from the researcher's educational and professional experience, the cooperation established with the experts in the host institution will support the quality and sustainability of the design and evaluation of the course activities and resources.
The Massive Open Online Course entitled “Technologically Enhanced Language Learning” to be developed within the scope of the project has a widespread impact in that it will bring together professionals and prospective teachers from around the world working or studying in the field of language education. Through this course, participants will have the opportunity to share their experiences and good practices. By increasing the competencies of language teachers, high quality foreign language learning processes can be put to work. In this way, students' language learning experiences will be enriched. The project will also contribute to the promotion of TÜBİTAK and Turkish Higher Education institutions, as the project will be carried out in cooperation with higher education institutions from abroad and attract participants from different parts of the world.
