Project Abstract

This project aims to enhance English language instructors' knowledge, awareness, and practical skills in AI-supported assessment and evaluation processes at schools of foreign languages at universities. Participants will conceptualize AI as a pedagogical decision support system, interpret generated data, and implement a hybrid (AI + human) assessment approach within ethical frameworks. The project comprises three main components: (1) AI literacy in language skills assessment and introduction of AI tools, (2) AI-assisted evaluation of speaking and writing skills, and (3) effective feedback design within a hybrid feedback model based on ethical principles. Participants will first become familiar with the basic framework of AI-supported assessment and AI tools, then conduct applications integrated with an AI assistant developed by Anadolu University that provides instant feedback to learners in speaking and writing activities and functions as a 'decision support system' for instructors in assessment processes. Finally, they will directly experience the hybrid (human + AI) feedback model. A 4-day training program is planned for 30 instructors from foreign language schools across Turkey, conducted through presentations, practical workshops, case analyses, discussion sessions, and feedback design activities. The project aims to enable instructors to use AI-based assessment tools consciously and safely, provide personalized feedback to students, and adopt sustainable best practices contributing to digital transformation in foreign language education.
