Abstract

Metaphysics Book Beta includes a series of aporiai that stem from the treatment of Book Alpha. In Metaphysics B, it is understood that studying through the aporiai enables us to identify the knots binding us, to know the direction in which we must proceed, to recognize it when we have found what we are seeking, and to be competent judges of competing accounts. In other words, in Aristotle's Metaphysics, studying aporiai has a crucial role in his method of inquiry. In this paper, I will try to focus on one of the most complex aporiai in Metaphysics, which is the eleventh aporia that concerns the status of being and unity.
