Biography
He graduated from the Department of Chemical Engineering in 1984. He holds two master's degrees, one in Chemical Engineering and the other in Pharmacy.
After completing his doctorate in Chemical Engineering, he became an Assistant in the Department of Pharmacognosy at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Anadolu University, in the same year.
After working at the Medical and Aromatic Plants and Drug Research Center (TBAM) for 19 years since its inception, he left the center in 2005 and returned to the Department of Pharmacognosy at the Faculty of Pharmacy, where he remained until 2015. After serving two terms as Director of the same center between 2016 and 2022, he returned to his position at the faculty.
His main research areas include the production of essential oils on a laboratory and industrial scale, as well as production and fractionation studies using classical and modern extraction techniques (SFE-CO2, MW, etc.). Additionally, his work includes sophisticated analytical techniques such as GC, GC/MS, MD-GC/MS, UPC2, FT-IR, NMR, as well as the design of commercial-scale distillation, fractionation, and extraction systems.
It has organized training programs and provided consultancy services in national and international programs such as TÜBİTAK, FAO, UNIDO, and ICS, and continues to do so.
Between 2009 and 2014, it was a member of the Management Committee of TÜBİTAK COST Action CM0804.
He has authored and edited more than 200 publications in international peer-reviewed journals, as well as 5 international and 3 national book chapters.
Between 2012 and 2016, he served as the editor for the Natural Products / Essential Oils section of the journal “Records of Natural Products.”
He has served and continues to serve on various committees affiliated with the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, and the Ministry of Industry.
He is currently a Professor in the Department of Pharmacognosy at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Anadolu University, and also serves as the Director of the Medicinal Plant, Drug and Scientific Research and Application Center at Anadolu University.
