This study aiming at determining the effect of gripping point of pen by elementary school first grade students, paper position and sitting position (writing position) on their writing speed and errors is a descriptive research conducted in descriptive study. The research has been conducted with elementary school first grade students in Kütahya (n=412). According to the findings obtained, two third of the children have gripped the pen from the middle part, more than half of the children have written by bending forward. With regard to paper position, 59.9% of the students in the process of writing hold the paper with an angle of 45° and 90° to the right or left. It can be suggested that writing and paper position, variables of pen gripping point cause difference in the averages of students' writing speed and errors scores. It has been observed that writing speed of elementary school first grade students have changed depending on their sitting positions. 4.3% of the change occurred in writing speed have been justified with the variables of writing in sitting position and vertical paper position.
