Abstract

This paper has theoretically examined the relation between population (general), population (old people), and economic growth, and has analyzed the demographic change in Turkey's population rather in the context of the phenomenon of aging. Hence, the change in the age structure of Turkey's population has been identified, and its relationship with economic growth has been analyzed in the context of factors affecting growth. The findings have showed that Turkey's population displays aging tendency, albeit not as much as in developed countries. This denotes that Turkey still has an advantage of a powerful workforce for a strong growth. Besides, there stands a possibility that the factors such as aging, expectations from life, decreasing fertility, and in-crease in well-educated individuals might have positive effect on Turkey's economic growth as well.
