Özet
This book includes twenty four chapters that detail the cultural and social practices, digitization, and theory of cinema studies. Chapter 1 investigates how interactive cinema creates aesthetic experiences through audience participation, focusing on the tension between viewer agency and predetermined narrative structures. Chapter 2 aims to illustrate how the homecoming motif in science fiction serves as a cultural mechanism for negotiating anxieties about identity, belonging, and technological mediation in a post-traditional society. Chapter 3 examines the technical, technological, aesthetic, and ethical aspects of AI’s relationship with documentaries. Chapter 4 focuses on the renowned painter Vincent Van Gogh, whose 37-year life has been depicted in eight different films, alongside numerous references in additional cinematic and televisual works. Chapter 5 study examines the manifestations of hybridization between these two domains within the framework of new technologies. Chapter 6 aims to determine the effect of technology on cinema by adopting an approach related to Postmann’s statement that “technology plays its role when the sliding door of culture is opened,” and the role of cinema in the process of meaning production with the perspective of ideology explained by Marx with the metaphor of camera obscura. Chapter 7 examines how metafiction narrative techniques are realized in three films, using the content analysis method. Chapter 8 emphasizes the value of feminist pornography initiatives as an empowering effort aimed at transforming the genre and industry from within and also highlights the primary debates and criticisms directed towards the field. Chapter 9 the concepts of liberating, activating spectator, and new cinephile are examined in line with the data obtained through a literature review. Chapter 10 aims to show whether cinema fulfills its obligation to keep social memory alive through the selected sample film, the 1989 movie Music Box. Chapter 11 examines the contribution of artificial intelligence in the context of the innovations it has brought to the cinema industry. Chapter 12 aims to delve into whether representations of “the other” and/or “othered” identities are present in Turkish cinema that focuses on rural narratives. Chapter 13 discusses the role of cinema advertisements and the transformation of advertising with digital possibilities. Chapter 14 examines the representation of large-scale violence and technological destruction in Stanley Kubrick’s Dr. Strangelove (1964). Chapter 15 investigates how child and adolescent characters function as philosophical metaphors. Chapter 16 examines the relationship between propaganda and public relations through the analysis of film as a strategic communication tool, focusing specifically on the 1918 animated propaganda film The Sinking of the Lusitania. Chapter 17 aims to reveal the reflections of transcending human one-dimensionality in modern cinema. Chapter 18 introduces the auteur theory, which centers the director as the principal creative force. Chapter 19 explores the ways in which Orientalism has manifested in French cinema over time and the impact it has had on the representation of the Middle East and North Africa. Chapter 20 aims to examine how artificial intelligence is used in cinema. Chapter 21 aims to address the impact of digital culture on cinema through vertical cinema. Chapter 22 explores the extent to which animals used as actors are affected by the industry and assesses the degree of respect shown toward animal rights. Chapter 23 critically examines the innovative narrative language and feminist perspective in Deniz Gamze Ergüven’s film Mustang (2015). Finally, in Chapter 24, the narrative structure and aesthetic form of Pride (2014, Matthew Warchus), is analyzed in the context of the Third Cinema approach and the radical democracy theory.
