Özet

In this study, the effects of music history courses given as a non-field elective course were investigated in order to increase university students' interest in the Polyphonic Western Music, and enhance their awareness of the music genre studied. As a sample, 'History of Music' course offered at Anadolu University has been studied and the success rate of the course has been investigated with regard to the goals and objectives of the course. The study aims to investigate if the students in the course transfrom into conscious listeners, which is one of the primary goals of the course, and what positive effects of Polyphonic Western Music has to do with it. A survey study is conducted to determine the positive aspects and deficiences of the course. The results are interpreted considering its positive effect on the cultural improvement of the students.
