Abstract

Smart Analytical Chemistry is an emerging and powerful multidisciplinary approach which combines the key features and principles of Green Analytical Chemistry, Sustainable Analytical Chemistry as well as White Analytical Chemistry together with number of emerging technologies including artificial intelligence, automation and miniaturized platforms. This review paper presents how Smart Analytical Chemistry transforms conventional analytical techniques and processes into smart, sustainable, effective, sensitive, portable and powerful platforms which are appropriate for modern scientific and industrial needs. By integrating eco-friendly and sustainable practices with the help of advanced data-driven approaches, Smart Analytical Chemistry provides significant enhancements in analytical performance, decreases resource and energy consumption and also promotes sustainability across diverse application fields of science (i.e. environmental monitoring, food safety, biomedical diagnostic platforms and forensic science). This paper also presents the current drawbacks and challenges related to scalability, ethical considerations, regulatory compliance as well as interdisciplinary collaboration.
