Abstract

Web-based collaborative learning is gaining popularity among educators. Many authors contend that collaboration is one of the most important aspects and potential strengths of web-based learning. Learners of web-based educational systems are spread all around the world and they feel socially isolated. On the other hand, web-based technologies provide ample opportunities for promoting learner collaboration. Through these technologies, learners can be connected to each other so that they interact toward accomplishing mutual goals. However, facilitation of learner collaboration on the web does not come naturally and its design deserves careful attention.
