Abstract
The fundamentals of European Union is composed of by. Basic Values. regulated in article 2 in Lisbon Treaty. It has an important place compared to the principles and values of rule of law which leads to discussions among the union in recent years. In this study, it is aimed to describe the progress, importance and legal nature of basic values on which European Union is based, control mechanism in the case of infringement of these values, principle of the rule of law and the procedure of protecting rule of law that is provided by European Commission by accommodating the case of Poland as a current issue.
