For the social work profession, older adults are one of the particularly important client groups due to their increasing proportion in the population. Social workers have important duties in working with the older adults living in nursing homes. One of these is that the social worker working in nursing homes strives for older adults to age successfully. The purpose of this study is to make suggestions on how social workers working in nursing homes can use the knowledge of Erik Erikson's Psychosocial Development Theory. In this context, the 8th stage of Erik Erikson's Psychosocial Development Theory, "Integrity vs. Despair”, which corresponds to the old age, has been examined and it has been tried to make visible how this stage can shed light on social workers in their professional work.
Sosyal hizmet mesleği açısından yaşlılar nüfus içinde artan oranları nedeniyle özel önemli olan müracaatçı gruplarından biridir. Huzurevlerinde kalan yaşlılarla çalışmada sosyal hizmet uzmanlarına önemli görevler düşmektedir. Bunlardan biri de huzurevlerinde çalışan sosyal hizmet uzmanının yaşlının başarılı yaşlanması için çaba göstermesidir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, huzurevlerinde çalışan sosyal hizmet uzmanlarının Erik Erikson’un Psikososyal Gelişim Kuramı bilgisini nasıl kullanacağına dair önerilerde bulunmaktır. Bu kapsamda, Erik Erikson’un Psikososyal Gelişim Kuramı’nın yaşlılık dönemine denk gelen 8. Evresi olan “Benlik Bütünlüğüne Karşı Umutsuzluk” evresi incelenerek bu evrenin sosyal hizmet uzmanlarına mesleki çalışmalarında nasıl ışık tutabileceği görünür hale getirilmeye çalışılmıştır.
