Water-distilled essential oils obtained from dried leaves of Viburnum orientale (Caprifoliaceae) were analyzed by capillary GC and GC/MS. Linalool (58.50%), α-terpineol (12.63%) and geraniol (12.53%) were identified as the major components of the oil which was obtained in 0.53% yield. The distillation was continued after acid hydrolysis to produce a further 1.11% oil containing linalool (45.77%), α-terpineol (20.98%) and geraniol (7.77%) as main constituents. © 1995 Allured Publishing Corp.
