Özet

This qualitative study aimed firstly to compare oral expressions of some Turkish learners and that of a native French speaker. Learners were asked to summarize a short film they watched. We have filmed them and transcribed records. We then compared the amount and variety of words they used. The results showed us that the vocabulary of Turkish learners is much poorer than the French student's vocabulary. Secondly, we aimed to reveal the effect of being aware of their errors on the self-assessment skills of learners. For this purpose, we asked learners to evaluate their productions after watching the recordings. After that, we did identify their errors and asked them to adjust the scores of first self-assessments. The comparison between the notes of the first and second self-assessments showed that students had lowered their ratings after realizing their errors. In conclusion, we are led to think that the richness of vocabulary plays an important role on the fluency of oral expression and that awareness of the errors could help to increase learner's objectivity in self-assessment.
