Özet

This article employs a hermeneutic method to examine the functional dimension of myths in Plato's philosophy and their communicative aspects within this context. Since addressing the nature and functional dimension of myths in all of Plato's dialogues would exceed the limits of the study, dialogues with high representativeness will be used. It is challenging to assert that the central issue addressed in this article has been adequately addressed within the academic community. The majority of studies examining myths in Plato's philosophy seek to elucidate the role and position of myths within his philosophical system. In this study, the functional dimension of the use of myths in dialogues will be evaluated in terms of communication. It is anticipated that this article will present a novel perspective on the role of myths in Plato's philosophy, offering insights that will contribute to ongoing research in this field. The article will argue that myths serve as a crucial element in the socialization of individuals around the Socratic method. This process involves two key stages: first, establishing communication between the sage (sophos) in the persona of Socrates and his interlocutors, and second, facilitating contact between these interlocutors and the truth.
