Abstract

The composition of the essential oil obtained from the aerial parts of Hypericum thymopsis Boiss. (Guttiferae) was analyzed by GC and GUMS. The analysis resulted in the identification of 72 compounds representing 82.4% of the oil. The major constituents found were spathulenol (10.8%), delta-cadinene (7.1%), germacrene D (6.1%), gamma-muurolene (5.9%), 2,3,6-trimethylbenzaldehyde (5%) and gamma-cadinene (4.4%). The oil was rich in sesquiterpene hydrocarbons.
