Reviewing Master Thesis and Doctoral Dissertations on Functional Academic Skills of Students with Intellectual Disabilities in Turkey

Özet

Functional academic skills are the ones that an individual needs to have and show in order to live independently in society. While checking master thesis and doctoral dissertations carried out with individuals with intellectual disabilities in Turkey, it was found that there have been master thesis and doctoral dissertations on functional academic skills of students with intellectual disabilities in Turkey. However, it was also recognized that there is no study reviewing these studies. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to review master thesis and doctoral dissertations on functional academic skills of students with intellectual disabilities in Turkey. It was found that out of 29 studies conducted in Turkey, 17 are on reading-writing skills and 12 on math skills. Studies were reviewed based on their topic, characteristics of participants, method, model, and results. Results are discussed and suggestions are also provided.
