Abstract: Educational philosophies and changes in the
society have affected English language teaching throughout the history. English
Language Teaching (ELT) methods and developments have changed over time
starting with traditional approaches, such as Grammar-Translation and
Audio-Lingual methods, leading to communicative methods in the 20th century.
The emergence of technology, particularly computer-assisted language learning,
has played a pivotal role. Contemporary trends, like task-based learning and blended
learning, showcase a dynamic landscape in ELT. Current tendencies in English
Language Teaching (ELT) include a growing emphasis on learner-centered
approaches, incorporating technology for interactive and personalized learning
experiences. Task-based and project-based methodologies remain popular,
fostering practical language use. The integration of online platforms and
virtual classrooms continues to expand, allowing for global collaboration and
flexibility. Additionally, there's a focus on incorporating real-world contexts
and authentic materials to enhance language acquisition. Overall, contemporary
perspectives in ELT prioritize adaptability, technology integration, and
learner engagement.
