Water-distilled oil from fruits of Xanthogalum purpurascens was analyzed by GC/MS. One hundred and nineteen compounds representing 85.2% of the oil were identified with bicyclogermacrene (12.0%), beta -phellandrene (7.1%), spathulenol (6.9%) and kessane (6.6%) as main constituents.
