Özet
In an era characterized by accelerating environmental change, biodiversity loss, and increasing disconnect between human societies and the natural world, education has assumed a critical role in shaping sustainable futures. *NatureBased Learning and Ecological Education* emerges from this global context as both a scientific contribution and a practical guide for educators, researchers, policymakers, and practitioners dedicated to raising environmentally conscious generations. This book is an output of the Erasmus+ project “Ecological Education and Out-of-School Learning Activities (ECOL)”, which brought together international expertise to explore innovative approaches to environmental education. The project reflects a shared belief in meaningful learning about nature, reaching beyond the classroom walls and relying on direct experience, emotional engagement, and interdisciplinary understanding. The chapters in this book integrate insights from environmental science, psychology, pedagogy, and social sciences, addressing ecological education from a multifaceted perspective. Contributing project partners examined how nature-based learning environments support cognitive development, emotional well-being, ecological empathy, and responsible behavior. Highlighting concepts such as systems thinking, living classrooms, ecological friendliness, and sustainability-focused citizenship, this book reveals the transformative potential of education. A central theme is that environmental challenges are not merely scientific or technical problems, but also cultural, ethical, and psychological issues. Climate change, environmental degradation, and ecological injustice require educational responses that develop not only knowledge but also values, attitudes, and action. Accordingly, this book advocates for holistic educational practices that foster global environmental awareness while connecting students with their local environments. The authors in this book have diverse professional backgrounds and cultural perspectives, enriching the interdisciplinary character of the work. Their collaborative effort demonstrates that nature-based education is not a marginal pedagogical trend, but a vital component of contemporary education systems seeking resilience, inclusivity, and sustainability. We hope this book will be a valuable resource for teachers, teacher educators, school administrators, researchers, and anyone interested in environmental education. More importantly, we hope it will inspire readers to rethink traditional learning environments, embrace nature as a powerful educational partner, and promote practices that strengthen the relationship between humans and the ecosystems on which they depend. As editors, we extend our sincere gratitude to all the contributing authors for their scientific dedication and spirit of collaboration. We also thank the Erasmus+ Programme and the Romanian National Agency for their support, which made this work possible. We hope this book will encourage thought, dialogue, and action toward a more ecologically conscious and socially responsible future of education.
