Leylâ ile Mecnun and Ferhad ile Şirin were significant narrations which took an important place in Ottoman literature. In this article, the question of what kind of appearance these narrations received in Tanzimat and following literatures will be evaluated in the light of some examples. These examples will be examined on the basis of Karl Mannheim's 'legitimization' concept. With this concept, it will be demonstrated that how Leylâ ile Mecnun and Ferhad ile Şirin narrations were transformed by nationalist, Islamist, socialist and feminist groups to an expression so as to legitimize their ideologies. Thus the concept of intertextuality's relation with ideology will be the subject of discussion.
