Education plays an important role in preparing societies to deal with disasters. It is possible through education to convey information to other individuals living in the society through students in order to increase awareness about disasters. In education, the subject of disaster is taught to students in schools through various disciplines depending on the country. Social studies discipline is among the disciplines in which disaster education is provided in Turkey. In the examinations, no research was found on the examination of studies on disaster in social studies education. In this regard, the aim of the research is to examine the studies on disasters in social studies education in Turkey and to offer researchers a different perspective for studies on this subject. Relevant studies were examined in terms of type, year, subject, disaster types, method, sample group, data collection tool, and data analysis techniques. Document analysis method, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the research. Relevant articles were accessed from DergiPark, EBSCO Host and Google Scholar databases, and theses were accessed from YÖK (National Thesis Center). The data collected with the document analysis design was analyzed with deductive analysis. As a result of the research, it was determined that studies on disasters in social studies education have increased in the last five years, doctoral theses and practicebased studies are limited, earthquakes are more discussed as a type of disaster, and qualitative research method and teacher candidates are preferred as the sample group. Since the research only includes studies conducted in Turkey, it recommends examining studies conducted abroad on disasters in the field of social studies education. Toplumların afetlere karşı hazırlanmasında eğitim önemli bir yere sahiptir. Afetlerle ilgili bilinç düzeylerini arttırmak üzere bilgileri öğrenciler aracılığı ile toplumda yaşayan diğer bireylere iletmek eğitim ile mümkündür. Eğitimde afet konusu ülkelere göre çeşitli disiplinler aracılığıyla öğrencilere okullarda öğretilmektedir. Türkiye’de afet eğitiminin verildiği disiplinler arasında sosyal bilgiler disiplini de yer almaktadır. Yapılan incelemelerde sosyal bilgiler eğitiminde afet konulu çalışmaların incelenmesine dair herhangi bir araştırmaya rastlanılmamıştır. Bu doğrultuda araştırmanın amacı, Türkiye’de sosyal bilgiler eğitiminde afetlerle ilgili yapılan çalışmaları incelemek, bu konuda yapılacak çalışmalar için araştırmacılara farklı bir bakış açısı sunmaktır. İlgili çalışmalar tür, yıl, konu, afet türleri, yöntem, örneklem grubu, veri toplama aracı, veri analiz teknikleri açısından incelenmiştir. Araştırmada nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden doküman incelemesi deseni kullanılmıştır. İlgili makalelere DergiPark, EBSCO Host ve Google Scholar veri tabanlarından, tezlere YÖK Ulusal Tez Merkezi’nden erişilmiştir. Doküman incelemesi deseni ile toplanan veriler, betimsel analiz (tümdengelim analiz) ile analiz edilmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda, sosyal bilgiler eğitiminde afetlerle ilgili gerçekleştirilen çalışmaların son beş yılda artış gösterdiği, doktora tezleri ve uygulamaya dayalı çalışmaların sınırlı olduğu, afet türü olarak depremin daha çok ele alındığı, nitel araştırma yönteminin ve örneklem grubu olarak öğretmen adaylarının daha çok tercih edildiği belirlenmiştir. Araştırma yalnızca Türkiye’de gerçekleştirilen çalışmaları içerdiğinden, sosyal bilgiler eğitimi alanında yurt dışında afetlerle ilgili gerçekleştirilen çalışmaların da incelenmesini önermektedir.
