Abstract

This research aims to examine Ne & scedil;e' Erdok's animal figured works within the scope of Turkish painting art with a formal approach through the plastic values of the composition. While the artist's paintings often combine social realism, individual expression and deformation-based narrative, animal figures appear to stand out as both dynamic and symbolic components of this narrative. Within the scope of the research, firstly the concepts of figure and figurative painting were mentioned, then information was given about the style of the artist who is considered among the representatives of figurative painting. In order to explain the relationship between figurative language and plastic values, seven works of the artist that include animal figures were selected in this research. These works examined within the scope of the research were evaluated using the formalist criticism (technical) method, which aims to reveal the plastic value of the work through its formal and structural features. In the examination of the works, visual analyses were carried out using the concepts of composition order, fiction, direction, color, form, balance, light, space and time. Evaluations based on the analyses reveal the importance of the plastic values used in the analysis of the composition in determining the process of creating an artwork and the individual style of the artist.
