Abstract

Artificial intelligence is positioned in contemporary art not only as a tool but also as a conceptual element at the center of debates on the nature of art. In this study, the integration of artificial intelligence into artistic production and the debate on whether creativity is inherent to human beings is addressed through the portrait of Edmond de Belamy, created with GAN technology and bearing an algorithmic signature. This work, which attracted attention with its high price at Christie's auction, pushed the traditional boundaries of art and questioned the perception of value in the art market. The analysis shows that the creators of works produced with artificial intelligence can be considered as artists or coders, that human-artificial intelligence collaborations can offer new production models, and that artistic value is largely determined by market dynamics. This transformation process deepens the ongoing debates on whether art is solely a human-centered activity, while understanding the impact of artificial intelligence on creativity requires an interdisciplinary approach, intertwining fields such as art, technology, and philosophy. In this context, the future of art will be shaped by how humans and artificial intelligence collaborate and how this interaction influences artistic forms of expression.
