Abstract

Vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) prevents stress-induced gastric ulcers, inhibits mast cell degranulation and protects gastric tissue from lipid peroxidation. Histamine has an important role in the development of gastric ulcers and mast cell derived histamine might be essential in this process. © 2003 Éditions scientifiques et médicales Elsevier SAS.
