Özet

Music is a phenomenon universally appreciated, independent of inherent talent. Even during passive listening, brain activity intensifies whereas when performing an instrument, a complex flow of data occurs. The two hemispheres of the brain are responsible for controlling the contralateral sides of the body. The act of playing an instrument requires the integration of auditory perception (listening), visual ability (reading), analytical cognition (interpreting musical notation), the coordination of both hands and feet (instruments such as piano, drums, etc.), and emotional engagement, thereby necessitating this intricate flow of data. While many musicians rarely face significant challenges when performing with score, interruptions in this data stream during memorized performance, for various reasons, may lead to memory issues. Although the precise causes of these memory problems remain unclear, the factors that may contribute to them, if addressed during early-stage music education, could enhance the freedom and efficacy of the performer in their professional musical career. The training provided within professional music education regarding the brain functioning during musical performance and strategies to mitigate the aforementioned memory difficulties is crucial for both educational outcomes and musical proficiency. It is hypothesized that a professional musician, when equipped with knowledge of harmony, formal structure, technique, and particularly relaxation techniques for managing performance anxiety, will be better positioned to prevent memory-related difficulties.
