Throughout history, writing has developed through various cultures and has reached its forms used today. While some of these are composed of visual images, others are analyzed with a system of letters and/or similar images based on a certain alphabet. Letters have become pictorial forms beyond the visualization of information. In its journey through history, writing has sometimes become a source of inspiration for artists by loosing its status as a pictorial representation of sounds, sometimes it has been transformed into shapes that contain experimentation and originality in an unreadable dimension contrary to its own nature. Asemic writing refers to an 'open' meaning that emphasizes the absence of a sign, rather than meaninglessness. The feature that it hides is revealed by pure aesthetic forms that looks like a language that is under construction but the meaning it contains can never be solved. The artist who explores beyond the norms of writing with Asemic writing can produce artworks that can reach out every audience, regardless of language and alphabet. Within the scope of the research, the history, evolution, purpose and foundations of Asemic writing are discussed, and Asemic writing expressions within the framework of typographic approaches in modern art movements are questioned. By giving examples of contemporary artists who produce works in the Asemic writing genre, attention is drawn to this understanding of art.
