This study presents the TURVOP - Turkish L2 Vocabulary Profile - which is tailored to elevate Turkish as a second language (L2) teaching and learning practices. TURVOP is a meticulously crafted vocabulary profile designed to meet the dynamic needs of L2 learners and educators. This vocabulary profile is informed by the Turkish Learner Corpus (TURLEC), which encompasses written and spoken texts from learners across diverse linguistic backgrounds.
The corpus incorporates a multitude of learner-produced texts, a collection of 735 texts with approximately 104,000 tokens and 18,000 unique word forms, dissected into 3,584 lemmas and systematically categorized in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) levels.
TURVOP is the first vocabulary profile for Turkish L2 learners and practitioners. It not only elucidates the linguistic progression of authentic usage patterns at various proficiency stages but also serves as a critical guideline for contextualizing vocabulary acquisition within CEFR levels. We will provide background information on considerations that played into the development of TURVOP and discuss implications for further application of it in language learning, teaching, and assessment practices.
