Abstract
Muhammed Hamdî Baba, popularly known as Kara Fakı, is a lodge poet who grew up in Antep in the 19th century and lived in the Alevi-Bektashi line. He used many Alevi-Bektashi motifs in the poems he wrote under the influence of the sect he belonged to and the sect he lived in; he included names, places, symbols and motifs that have a very important place in Alevi-Bektashi culture in his poems. Especially names of Muhammad, members of 'Al-i 'Abâ, Salman, four caliphs, twelve imams; places and dwellings such as Kaaba, Karbala, Kevser; animals such as Duldul and lion; objects such as Zülfikar; beverages such as wine; concepts such as Ehl-i Beyt, fourteen innocents, sırat-ı müstakim, hel etâ, Gürûh-ı Nâcî are frequently repeated in Hamdî Baba's poems. For this reason, it is not possible for those who do not come from the Alevi-Bektashi culture or at least are not familiar with this culture and traditions to understand Ayıntablı Hamdî Baba's poems at once. Due to this situation, in order to understand Hamdî Baba's poems more clearly, in this compilation-dictionary study, we will examine in detail the elements and symbols of the Alevi-Bektashi culture in Ayıntablı Hamdî Baba's Divan via giving examples of couplets.
