Abstract

In the context of protecting academic and cultural heritage, the purpose of libraries and information and documentation centers is to research, document, and archive and to transfer to future generations, domestically and internationally, a society's culture. This study examines the structural, functional and administrative innovations that have resulted from the implementation of information technology (IT) in libraries since the 1990' s. The study also mentions how IT can be used in an efficient way in libraries and information and documentation centers.
