Abstract

Fired-bed pyrolysis experiments have been conducted on a sample of cottonseed cake to determine the possibility of being a potential source of renewable fuels and chemical feedstocks. The effects of heating rate, pyrolysis atmosphere, and pyrolysis temperature on the pyrolysis product yields and chemical compositions have been investigated The maximum oil yield of 27% was obtained in N-2 atmosphere at pyrolysis temperature of 550 degrees C and heating rate of 7 degrees C min(-1). The chemical characterization has shown that the oil obtained from cottonseed cake was quite similar to the crude oil and shale oil.
