Abstract

This article is written in order to provide new reading proposals on the left-outer line of the broad face of Altin Kol II inscription, which belongs to the group of Yenisei inscriptions. Altin Kol II inscription has been investigated by the Finnish research group (1889), Radloff (1895 and 1896), Orkun (1940), Malov (1952), Kljastorntj (1976), Kononov (1980), Vasil'ev (1983), Mori (1987), Erdal (1991), Recebov-Memmedov (1993), Sertkaya (1993), Kormusin (1997), Tekin (1998) and Aydin (2015) so far. Moreover, some photographs are released in www.bitig.org and uqusturk.wordpress.com websites. The glyph inventory of the mentioned line is identified as in all studies starting from Radloff's unretouched copy. What is problematic here is that the sign groups and in the line are read and interpreted in many ways by the researchers. In this study, the sign group is read as esirkayur amd2i (?) 'regrets now (?)'. Moreover, the particle +m at the end of the word erincim is evaluated as the first-person singular possessive and the lexeme erineim is interpreted as '(Oh) My miserable!'. The paper is organized as follows: Section 1 is Introduction. In Section 2, the glyph inventory of the line in question will be assessed. In Section 3, the major studies on Alton 101 II inscription will be dealt with, respectively. In Section 4, new reading proposals will be made regarding and sign groups in the line. Finally, Section 5 will present the conclusions.
