Abstract

A landfill liner act as a barrier to minimize the migration of leachates in waste containment systems. Thus, proper management of leachates is important to minimize the risk of contamination for groundwater and subsoil. Structure of a liner is affected by different salt and metal solutions. Therefore, microstructural and physico-chemical properties of landfill liners are important. This paper, part of an extended study, reports the morphological characteristics of clay-zeolite liner material mixtures before and after contamination with salt and heavy metals solutions.
